It's garbage, has a few bright spots. For the most part though, it is garbage. I don't know ANYTHING about rooting, but would you guys suggest waiting (90 more years) for a patch for the OTA or root to something proven?

If you root, can you go back to official software (in case I need to exchange it ever), and what are the downsides, if any?

Thanks everyone.

Help me I'm choking on a stale eclair Verizon shoved in my mouth need me some of that sweet froyo to wash this down.

But honestly if you root you can load custom roms that sometimes aren't that stable. But on the other hand sometimes are better than the original. some have over clock and most have all the missing features we didn't get in the ota.

Yes you can downgrade back to stock if you have to but only if you root.

I'm sure they have root instructions here or they have a one click root script over at xda developers your choice. Have fun and stay Android.

I won't ever ditch Android. It's just driving me crazy having to power cycle my phone many times a day to make/receive phone calls.

I'm not sure, but I think you are currently stuck at the OTA 2.1 level. I'm of the understanding that 1.5 was rooted, but if you allowed the phone to upgrade you lost root and there is currently no way to get it back.

I don't know, maybe there is a way to downgrade from stock 2.1 to stock 1.5, then root, then load a cooked 2.1 ROM.

Anyone?

If you were on 1.5 and received the 2.1 upgrade over the air, it can be rooted using the same process as 1.5.

Yep ^ true story. I rooted it today, never going back. Overclocking ftw, and zero lag or glitches or bull**** with the ROM I have (Ivan's I believe it was).

So I am looking at VZWs Droid Eris Update PDF and it lists things, such as:

Pinch to zoom in Google Maps and Gallery
3D Photo Gallery
Voice to Text

Now, this update didn't have these items, and no where on the pdf does it state that these may not be in final release. So tell me, could Verizon be on the hook for a class action lawsuit for advertising something and not delivering. That is one of the main reasons I went with the Eris was the sales rep told me that 2.1 was coming soon........

Just curious.....

Idk but if it is a lawsuit let me know so I can get in on that too ;) (sorry Big Red but I need your moneyz)

Good luck with that...

Honestly, somebody made a mistake preparing the PDF announcing the release. It's that simple. Somebody likely took the features that were is the 2.1 Droid upgrade and assumed that they were in the Eris upgrade as well.
