Feels better already...

I was never able to load and play Grid games over my 2.4 GHz router until this update. Now , Grid transmits nicely. The rest of the tablet functions much better as well. Awesome!

It seems like, for me, performance has significantly improved. This thing is absolutely flying now. Updated last night and I have yet to see even the slightest bit of lag or stutter. I also cleared the cache in recovery right after the update, so maybe that helped a little, too. Either way, this update looks like a home run.

After the update, the tablet has trouble reading the T-Mobile Sim. Takes several reboots to connect, then it only stays connected for a few minutes. Anyone else having this issue?

I gave up on T-mobile. They couldn't figure it out in store. I don't think they support using it on their network.

Since updating the OTA every time I turn on my Shield it has to "optimize the apps" which it never did before. Can I do anything to save whatever it is doing so start up doesn't take 4 minutes?

That's a strange one. Maybe try wiping the cache partition in recovery mode? Power down the tablet and try following (from XDA):

"Hold the volume down button and press the power button and let go, holding both down will just load the tablet. Once your in the bootloader, use the volume buttons to select recovery and hit the power button to launch recovery."

Once in recovery you should be able to use the volume buttons to highlight wipe cache partition and select that with the power button. If no options are available when you enter recovery (all you see is an android on its back) you may need to hold power button and then press volume up to make options appear. I don't recall exactly how recovery works on this device.

If anyone else wants to correct or add to what I said feel free =)

I've only had to power mine up once since the update and initial restart, but my apps spent a few minutes optimizing too. Thought it was odd...

Only fix for this now is to move whatever apps you have on your SD card back to internal storage.

I've had my new Shield for two weeks now. It's been on 5.0.1 since I first turned it on but still no update to 5.1. Any way I can force it to get the OTA update? BTW, this thing blows my old 2012 Nexus 7 away.

Nvidia has disabled v3 update, because many people have complained about audio issue after the update.

Mine was how the sim was set up. I bought it when it was on sale for 99 cents. Went into local Tmo store and they did their thing in their systems and it worked. However, I did not get LTE even though my phone had LTE so my guess is the bands aren't all supported.
