My unlocked GNex got an OTA this morning. I am was running 4.01 before an I still am after. I wonder what this "update" was.

This was definitely an OTA update. I had to restart and I got the little Android with the blue geometric shape spinning in it's belly and then it spent quite a while "optimizing" all of my applications. Kernel version now says 3.01-ga052f63 android-build@apa28 #. Build number is: ITL41F.I9250XWKK9. I wish I would have paid more attention to what these fields indicated before I installed the update.

I don't think there's any hard and fast rule that OTA updates must update the Android version number. If it's just small bugfixes or updates to the baseband, kernel, etc., the Android version number could conceivably remain the same.

Had this happen to me a few times when i first got my phone a month ago. Hasn't happened for the last couple of weeks though. Not sure what it was...

I got this update this morning also. It was definitely an update from Google, but I'm also still on 4.0.1.
I'm guessing some bug fixes.

I get an updated message every time I boot my phone (or at least eveytime I've watched it boot up after a battery pull). I have decided the message is wrong and its some sort of bug.
