OTA updates: Sept 18 for GPS fix + other upgrades

I've seen this and am not holding my breath. It's clear an update is coming but things slip. From what has been leaked it seems it fix gps, media scan crippling your phone and is still 2.1 android.

I've Flashed this 'unofficial' update and the results have so far have been good: The lag is virtually gone; everything loads/runs smoother (particularly things with lists, ie. Contacts/SMS/pics/etc); Market loads, scrolls, and downloads much faster; the keyboard is more responsive and accurate (no more "hiccups" or missed letters while typing); GPS/compass fixed; and a whole slew of other minor improvements.

It's a promising update, and a great indication of what this phone is really capable of. I can't wait for 2.2.

I think I am patient enough, this saturday, better than screwing up my phone and spending the rest of the night doing this. Hopefully this isn't an indication that Samsung won't be giving us 2.2 before the end of September, but I doubt this is... still very happy they got the GPS fixed and now I won't need to use a third party lag fix.

Well regardless that isn't a long ways ahead, I would be angry if it was another 4 weeks, but a week or two I am fine with and if earlier than the G2 that would be much nicer for the Vibrant's sales. I have to admit though, this fixes the Vibrants boot tikeme and lag issue because of the media scanner but really have you SEEN the G2 start up?! It isn't even 10 seconds! If Samsung could manage this for Froyo the device might just be the best phone on the market and maybe for a while, because if 2.2 on that 800mhz processor(or 1ghz processor for you people who keep talking about the speed and pipes thing) then of course it can happen on this thing.

No 2.2 till after the g2 is released. We are going to get the lag and gps fix in before then.

You can find the Rom with the fixes on xda developers vibrant dev forum. Need to be rooted and willing to flash a new rom.

I can confirm this is working fine noticeable changes:

Media scanner is SOOO much faster
The unlock screen is improved, it is harder to instantly swipe to unlock
It seems faster without the lag fix
Camcorder shortcut added(it's bloatware but still a pretty nice touch)
Task manager(thank god)
GPS WORKS! It is MUCH more accurate, it's not accurate by at the very max, 100 meters

Overall I feel this update is just perfect, it's perfect enough to not care how long until Froyo rolls out, and truth is, I don't care when it rolls out, with 1k speeds on Quadrant, I can expect extreme speeds on Froyo. This just gets me more excited for Froyo.

Thanks for this :)
