otg usb support on nexus 7

I just bought a nexus 7 2nd gen yesterday and dismayed that it does not support otg by default while my other tablet does. I see there are a few apps are google play and tried one but it still could not play / open the file. Can somebody help me on this ? I primarily would like to put video, audio and pdf files on a usb thumb drive and play in on the nexus without copying onto it. Thanks

I've used an OTG/USB cable (about $1 on ebay) in conjunction with Nexus Media Importer app. Reads and writes info between N7 and flash drive. Works just fine for docs, pix, music, vids

Just ordered a Card Reader with OTG interface (also about $1 on ebay) that plugs into N7 and works with SDHC, micro-SDHC, so that I can use N7 to preview photos (and any other data) from my camera while in the field. About the size of a quarter. Awaiting delivery, but should also work just fine.

I 2nd Nexus Media Importer. Used it on my Galaxy Nexus. Now use it on my Nexus 5 & Nexus 10. Have movies on a flash drive and no problem viewing them.

Did they fix the problem that required the tablet to be started in the English language in order to be able to use Nexus Media Importer? This sucks bad for a guy like me whose OS is in French...

That was an Android bug and it was fixed in KitKat.
