Otterbox Defender Case Issue?

Anyone else with this issue have people tell them it's hard to hear them? I didn't really have the issue prior to putting the case on but now people say it all the time. So I'm sure it's the case. I'm just nervous not using it since I've dropped the phone once. Haven't dropped a phone in about 3 years and I've been thru quite a few in that time and the moment I go naked I drop it.
