OV Charging Problems? HW or SW?

Long story short, I bought this phone to replace my super buggy MT.... I got this phone Monday, and started to realize something odd..
Whenever the phone charges in "ON" mode, when the phone reaches near to full charge, it automatically begins to discharge. Without the charger being unplugged in any way.
If i take the charger out and put it back in, it begins to say it's charging again.
Is this standard with the OV? Does it automatically begin to discharge when battery hits 100%? Even though the charger wasn't tampered with..
This happens both on stock ROM and CM7-IHO.
My only concern is that if it may be a hardware issue, I'll be back in RadioShack to return my phone....If it is a software problem, maybe I won't be bothered as much. I literally got this phone Monday then instantly flashed IHO, so if it is an issue then I will be returning it...
I really hate to go back to the store for an exchange, but I also really hate to have a not-to-par phone.
Any help is apprecited. :)

1> Once you rooted and flashed CM7-IHO on it you voided your warranty. For all intents and purposes your should not be considering returning the phone to be an option.

2> I'm a bit confused about your problem. Once the battery reaches 100% it cannot be charged any more. The charger will have to be "turned off" for a while until the battery is discharged a little bit before it can be charged again. Are you actually seeing the charge % dropping after it's fully charged even with the charger being left plugged in or are you just going by the status showing "discharging"? You're not using one of those "eco-friendly power saving" surge protectors are you?

Not true, I've returned my phone to stock and returned it.

The phone shouldn't discharge while on the charger unless you're doin something extremely intensive.. Pandora while playing a 3d game while downloading.. Something like that.

You're NOT SUPPOSED to is what he's trying to say. That's why there are those warnings before you root, that specifically say rooting voids your warranty. So basically by rooting you're supposed to take into understanding that anything you do to your phone after that is your fault, and only your fault.

The OP's could be a manufacturer defect, or they could have caused the problem themselves. They might not even know which one. But if everyone breaks their phone and then returns it and "claims" it was the manufacturer, then obviously we're not going to have that luxury anymore for those who do have manufacturer defects.

Nothing against the OP though, I'm not saying that they caused the problem themselves. I'm simply stating what was said before you root, and what's said pretty much everywhere around here. Rooting voids your warranty, so you're on your own after that.

Had the same issue on mine. It was fine when new then about 4 months later mine was doing the same thing. I had virgin replace it. I took it to a sprint repair center who was nice enough to check it out. Bad Charing circuit. They also advised me not to use the generic car chargers as they, sprint said that the non approved chargers can screw up the phone. I can attest that the sprint charger was different than the generic I had. I blame the non car charger causing the problem. So fyi to you. Return it for an exchange. I would give the phone a couple of battery cycles before you root.

I gave my OV to a family member and i went over there to set it up for her, I was able to test my old OV and a friends OV today after reading this thread.

I can tell you from watching TWO ov's charge from low to almost 100% that once they reached 100%, they stayed there and only started discharging when the cable was removed.

the wall power was enough to power the phone and keep the battery topped off.

Also, from past experience with my OV, I have been able to stream netflix over wifi for 2-3 hours straight on full brightness (thats a lot of power use) and not have it drain the battery as long as its plugged into the wall.

maybe thats a "feature" put into newer OVs? idk. but it definately doesnt happen with my old one and another that was bought around the same time. (these were bought 3 weeks after the OV was released on VM)

Same here, but mine is an older version(Shiped with 2.2.1) as well.

So basically I should get it fixed? Or is it not an issue? It's odd that it starts to discharge without removing the power source. Do you think it will get worse over time?
Let me also give a thanks to those of you who tested or looked into it for me. :)

But to answer some of the questions here....

We all know what it looks like on the lock screen while our phones are charging, right? Sure we do. It has the little indicator saying "Charging --%"
Or on the notification bar, where it has the lightning bolt going through the battery.
While my phone is "on" and plugged in, it charges to full or near full, then quits showing the charging icons. While still plugged in, I went into settings->phone info and checked the battery level. It would say something like 100% 'discharging'.
Keep in mind I never unplugged it.

I hope that helps some of ya understand a little more. Tried to be as detailed as possible.
Yeah, you may not think it's anything serious or whatever, but on a new phone, anything bad is serious.

Also. I do believe that if a phone is BRICKED or damaged via root or custom ROM, that you shouldn't exchange it under WARRANTY.
However, this phone is not bricked, has had this problem since out of the box, is only a week old, and wouldn't be returned under warranty. I would take it back to the store with my receipt after I returned it to bone-stock unrooted. That isn't wrong to do. Especially when a hardware issue on a week-old phone that had nothing to do with anything I added to it.

Try using a different battery (borrowed from a friend with the"V"). Then try a diffrent charger( borrowed). If those don't solve your problem then you have a possible bad battery charging port and should exchange it.
