Over the Moment

Well, I hate to say this, but I threw in the towel with my Moment. At first the phone worked fine, but after 5 months and many problems with 2 Moments, especially the phone just not taking calls, I ditched it and Sprint. And then there was the problem with chewing up the battery (less than 3hrs on a full charge).

My family thought I should just move into the Service Center since I spent so much time there. Had to do several factory resets and then reset up my phone. I have a job that requires me to stay accessible. The phone was not taking any calls, nothing in the call log, just lots of voicemails.

Sprint basically told me I was out of luck, I could only have a Moment as a replacement phone. I refused to keep doing factory resets. They told me to check out eBay or craigslist for a different phone. I cancelled my contract.

Too bad. This phone had potential. No more Samsungs for me.

Did you break your contact? I went ahead and switched to the Intercept from my Moment but told them and told them to note my account if I have ongoing issues with it, I will be asking to be let out of my contract.

The contract is still in place. My number has been ported to Big Red. Paying $20/month to keep line open instead of the $$ to break the contract.

My work requires I be readily available by phone, and this is my primary phone. I was missing calls from work and also from my doctor. When you're awaiting test results, telephone tag with the doctor is the last thing you need.

I told Sprint I would not accept a lesser phone, that I'd only want to go up. Their offered solution was to do reset my phone each time I installed an app. The Moment takes forever to reload. I missed calls doing that, too.

Now, I'm with BigRed and loving life with my X. I have outstanding coverage in a house with a Sprint Airave (tower booster). Don't miss calls, does what I want it too and more. I would have gone for an EVO, but Sprint said no.

They wouldn't upgrade me to the EVO or Epic either, that's how I got the Intercept. But my upgrade is in March, so I'm just waiting until then.

I'm on my 4th replacement moment, having the exact same issues as the OP. I sometimes dont' get calls, even if I'm standing next to the person who is calling me. I stopped taking it into the sprint store because all they would do is a factory reset or a replacement phone, and that doesn't cut it. The lag is unbearable and battery drain is down right terrible. I am considering switching carriers as well.

OP, where did you get the Airave? Is that a general signal booster? or just cdma?

The Airave we got at Sprint. It's like a signal booster for your home. Utilizes our incoming cable line. My hubbs set that up. Was supposed to help our reception (we are in a "fair" voice coverage area), but our phone reception was not good. There is nothing quite like calling yourself from your home phone and absolutely nothing happening with your cell phone.

My battery drain was unbelievable. Started out fine, but as time went on, the battery just wouldn't hold a charge. Even bought a second battery, got the same results. Lag time was getting progressively worse. I was having to do battery pulls and factory resets just to use the camera.

I was spending all my off time in the Sprint store. Reset after reset after factor reset. I just couldn't keep setting up my phone every other day. Sprint's solution was no solution at all.

Went to Big Red, got a DroidX running 2.2. I can go through a full work day (I do 12 hour shifts, meaning my phone is off the charger for about 14hrs) and still have a good amount of charge and that's using a live wallpaper. Phone reception rocks! I finally got into the "yellow zone" on my battery on Friday when we had a lot of fun at work - using the music apps and Pandora.

What bothers me is that I hate my Moment so much that I'm worried it might be a Samsung issue and am afraid to get the Epic. This is the slowest and most unreliable phone I've ever had in over 24 years of having mobile phones. I always say that God forbid I should ever have to call 911 for a lifesaving issue. I'd be dead before I could get to the screen to dial (or out of battery).

Same here. I've owned many different phones over the years. The Moment was my first Samsung. I would have stayed with Sprint if they would have let me an HTC phone, namely the EVO. They offered me another Moment and I was just over it.

The Repair Center people had to admit I was an above average user, just looking at how the phone was set up.....thanks to all the wonderful folks here at AndroidCentral. The guy who was constantly working with my phone got lots of apps from my phone. During the last week I had the phone, it was so vanilla I was in tears. I had work apps that were important that I was afraid to re-install for fear the thing would totally lock up.

No Samsungs for me. I, too, was afraid I'd croak if I had to rely on this phone to get help in an emergency.

I had the same fear from reading about so many complaints with the Moment. But I took a leap of faith on launch day, and the Epic is by far the best phone I've ever used. Fast, can easily get over 24hrs of battery life with light use, stunning screen, and very good at picking up signal.

Well remember you said that and in a few months, hopefully, you'll be saying the same thing. I've got until March before I can change phones.
