Overclockable kernel for rooted but stock 2.1?

I'm running a rooted but otherwise nearly stock 2.1 ROM.
I've played with the various Ultimate Droid and Cyanogen mods, but in the end I think I prefer the stock Android look & feel. But, I'd still like to overclock.

Anyone know which overclockable kernels are compatible with the ESE81 rooted but otherwise stock ROM? I'd prefer a low-voltage 1GHz 5-slot kernel.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if these were ok on a stock ROM; I know not all kernels work with all ROMs.

I'm using the ChevyNo1 low-voltage 1GHz 5-slot kernel at 900MHz. Phone is fast, cool and seems to be doing better on battery life than the stock 550MHz kernel.

Installed via ROM Manager - download the kernel to your SD card, choose Install ROM From SD Card in ROM Manager, select the kernel you downloaded, and hit Install. Working nicely for me.

I'm a complete noob in regards to rooting and I'm trying to read all I can. I'd really like to give it a go today, but every time I think I'm ready I find something else that I don't understand.

I'm still not sure which ROM I'll try first, but my concern after reading this thread is that I am clueless about kernels. I'm concerned about breaking something and not knowing how to fix it.

This MotoDroid is the coolest phone I've ever laid hands on and I'd like to get every bit of performance out of the device that I can.

Is there any advice that anyone could offer to help a fellow Droid fan?

Love the site and thanks in advance. :)
