somebody explain the overclocking of the TB please?

im reading all these threads trying to familiarize myself with this but i see numbers being thrown out with no idea what they mean.

please explain the concept for me as well as other android noobs out there.

in addition recommend some apps that are good for this overclocking practice.

thanks!

The TB has a processor that runs at 1Ghz out of the box. Overclocking means to go past the levels of 1Ghz. So, when people overclock at 1.2 or 1.5ghz, they are making the processor run faster and speeds up the phone (apps, games, videos) however, it can make the battery drain faster because the processor is running at a higher speed.

Overclocking is the same as when it's referring to overclocking the processor of a computer.

Now, I'm definitely not an expert but this is my basic understanding: processors have a processing "speed" which is measured in MHz/GHz. Processors in things such as phones and computers do not run at the maximum possible processing speed that they physically can (mostly for lifetime/temperature/battery/better-safe-than-sorry reasons). However, it is okay in most cases to push the boundaries a little ;)

So overclocking the TB increases the processing speed from 1000MHz (1GHz) to whatever kernel you end up flashing (e.g. I'm on Drod's 1.5GHz).

After overclocking I recommend getting SetCPU. It makes you able to limit your processor by creating profiles that limit or raise the speed of the processor under certain circumstances (e.g. temperature reaches a certain level, battery reaches a certain level, screen off etc.).

I'm not sure how many downsides there are, but I wouldn't feel right running my processor at an overclocked speed for a constant amount of time! (so, for example, I have setCPU lower my processor speed when I turn off my screen)
Running a processor as overclocked doesn't always lower battery level like most people think. There are cases when you can overclock and undervolt and actually increase battery life ;) don't know much about overclocking the TB right now though personally.

It also produces more heat than the internal components are rated for. Will your phone melt in your hand? Probably not. But it will substantially shorten the life of your phone if you "run hot" often and for extended periods of time...

It's a cool trick to get an unbelievable quadrant score, but not very practical if you are an "average user".
