Overheating?

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed, I did search but couldn't find much. I'm trying to decide which phone to get to replace my Thundebolt. I'm between the Maxx HD and the GS 3. Staples has the GS3 for $100. I was talking to the guy there. He said they don't sell the Maxx HD because it overheats, especially with a case on. Has anyone had this issue? I'm pretty much sold on the Maxx HD -- it's selling for $150 these days.

I've done lots of reading, and spent time with each in the Verizon store, and frankly I like the feel and look of both of them.

Just wondering about the over heating thing.

Thanks.

Howard

I've had my MAXX HD since 02 NOV 12 and I've experienced no overheating whatsoever. I'm also running an OtterBox Defender Series case on the phone.

Nah no link. It's just something that the guy at Staples at the mobile phones area said.

Seems like it's not an issue.

Thanks for your replies. Now I just gotta actually decide to do this, for $150. This kind of thing is always a big decision for me, since I'll have it for 2 years. Actually my tbolt works fine, I'm just itching for so something new.

Mine gets pretty hot with heavy usage but not something I would consider over heating

The only way I find that plausible is if you download a buggy app that makes your phone extra hot somehow.

Of course, I've played games like GTA and n64 emulator for an hour at a time before. The back gets warm, but it cools off after I'm done playing.

Aren't these things supposed to get rather warm when you're playing a game or something?

No overheating observed on my Razr Maxx HD w Commuter case. Of course it is -9 deg F here in balmy Minnesota today. lol

Had mine for a few weeks now, as well as the older Droid Razr MAXX before this. Never overheated. And I can see my temperature at any time with the GSAM battery app. I've used Trident Aegis cases for each.

I've owned both phones and honestly the gs3 would get hotter than the RAZR maxx HD. Probably due the plastic vs the industrial feel of the RAZR but neither would overheat.

I take that back

After continuous Web surfing with my Razr MAXX HD inside an Otterbox for about an hour, the phone started heating up. The case itself was getting very warm and the phone slowed it's performance significantly. The GSAM battery monitor showed the temp got up to 44? C. I took the phone out of its case and it was very warm overall. I set it down to cool and a minute later the phone spontaneously rebooted. Gonna switch back to the Trident Aegis case to see if that produces less heat.

Booted up a replacement Droid Razr Maxx HD this am - only to receive a message that the phone was going to shut down due to overheating - the phone proceded to shut down and it was very warm.

Returning the original (speaker blew) and replacement to Verizon this p.m..

I've had my Maxx for about 4 months and lately I noticed it gets warm to the touch but I think it is normal because it only happens when I'm using the internet extensively. Btw, I have the cruzerlite case on my phone.

Same thing here. Had it 4 months and it's been getting hot much more frequently, which has been affecting my battery life. I don't use a case. I've also noticed the mobile connection is weaker than it used to be. Anyone else notice that?

Something is definitely up and I think it has to do with Google Now and/or Google Maps. I've had to shut down my phone at least 4 times in the last 2 weeks due to overheating and when I check battery usage Google Maps is right under Android every time, using just about the same amount of battery. And of course it causes a tremendous drain. I mentioned Google Now because I was prompted to have GPS on in order for Google Now to work. I think having GPS on somehow initiates Google Maps.

I like my phone but damn I'm tired of one step forward two steps back.

Something up because i work outside and mine rarely overheats. As of right now its 91 and i am outside and phone feels normal
