Overwhelming notification sounds?

I just got my Samsung Galaxy s6 a few days ago. I noticed that if I don't dismiss a notification and just leave it, I get a notification ring about every 30 seconds.

Is this normal? Is there a way to turn this off?

I'm sure that they're not just new notifications. If I have one notification (say, from instagram) and just leave it, it starts ringing over and over again. Did I just set something wrong?

It might be a setting in the apps that might need to be changed. Try going in to Instagram and go the the notification settings and see if there is something in there that is set to constantly notify you
