P20 camera won't take photos, seems to be stuck in macro mode

Have a brand new P20, 3 days old, and am starting to get really annoyed. Purchased the phone for the camera, but it doesn't work. I can access camera mode fine, but when I go to take a photo the app freezes. I downloaded a different camera app to bypass this issue, but the camera seems to be frozen on close up mode, as everything in the distance is blurred. Rang Huawei, they said to reset the cache, then when that didn't work, to reset the phone completely. Nothing worked. Anyone else had this issue and found a fix?

A few judicious smart slaps to the camera area sometimes helps if the focus is stuck.

That sounds like a hardware issue if it won't change focus. Have you tried going in to pro mode and using manual focus to see if it can be changed.
