Paid Screen Repair

Has anyone had to pay to have their screen replaced on their Nexus 5?

Mine just because a casualty of stuff from my desk overhang cabinet falling out and on top of it. I can send it in to LG and wait for them to quote me what I need to pay, but wanted to see if anyone else has had to pay to have this done, who you went with, turn around time and how much it cost you.

(No case or screen protector would of saved my phone....)

This is from memory (based on some earlier reading from productforums.google.com), but I believe LG charges something like $140 to repair the screen (plus shipping and the loss of the phone for a week or so). Some people mentioned local shops repairing phones for something like $200. I also seem to remember others talking about buying the screen on ebay for $100 and using a video like this one:

to replace it themselves [shudder -- though the video is fascinating].

I'm waiting to hear what a local place will charge before I mail to LG.

Wife had to send hers to LG and I think it was right at 150. Didn't have a choice it was about a week after the phone was released. Some local place tried to scam her for 300 and I just laughed. It took them forever (over 2 weeks) so hopefully it's better now.
