I'm not sure if anybody has noticed this yet. Samsung updated Samsung Pay to link your PayPal account to it.

I had to get new cards because mine were compromised. When I deleted the old ones and started to add the new ones, I noticed PayPal as an option. I added my PayPal and tried it out and it worked. I had to run as credit though, not as debit.

Thanks for heads up. I tried to add PayPal but it says enter valid card number and my card is valid lol and it's the same card paypal got so I don't know what is up with that. Oh well I'll just continue to not use Samsung pay lol.

It didn't ask me for a card number. It asked me to log into my PayPal account. I don't have a PayPal card.

That's the thing I don't have a paypal card either. I just have paypal account. I'll try again later.

out of curiosity, what benefits are there with linking pay pal?

The same if you linked your debit or credit card. For me, I can now use my Samsung Pay in places that don't take Visa (like Sam's Club), all of my other cards (debit and credit) are Visa. PayPal goes through MasterCard.

There is also an extra layer between you and your bank account.

I have a credit card tied to my PayPal account, and I also have a PayPal Credit account, which I don't use.

I have a Simon Debit Card which works fine on PayPal but is not allowed on Samsung Pay. If I link to PayPal and log in will Samsung Pay allow it since PayPal does or somehow know the source of the money and block it?

You can use your balance by using Samsung Pay instead of transferring money to your bank account which has fees. Many don't have the MC card linked to their PayPal account. Also if you don't have the funds available in your PayPal account it'll top off from your bank account up to 50$ for free. Since I use Spay for its convenience and added bonuses like points(it just gave me 5$ for registering my PayPal account on my S9!) it's a benefit for me that they finally added it.

It should since you're linking PayPal to Samsung Pay. If you then tell PayPal to draw from the Simon Debit card, then you should be good.

I only have one card and it's a prepaid card I get paychecks deposited on and it doesn't either accept the bank it is thru(metabank) or it don't accept my kind of card

Ah. I think there is the problem. It may be because it is a prepaid card. Samsung Pay does not allow prepaid cards, and since your PayPal is linked to it (I,m presuming), then Samsung Pay is saying it is invalid.
