PC hangs when connected to Samsung Galaxy S3 via USB

Do you have an SD card installed in the phone? If so, try removing it before you connect the phone to the PC.

Is this recent behavior?
Did it ever work?
Does the PC beep once like it's recognizing the phone?
Does the phone act like it's connected via USB (i.e. it shows a notification in the Status bar)?
Have you tried a different cable (be sure it's a data cable and not a charging cable)?

Yes, it did.
It worked until three or so months ago.
Sometimes, it does and sometimes, it doesn't. It recognizes something being connected to it but then does nothing. The phone just keeps on getting charged. Nothing happens. And then, everything begin to slow down in my pc and eventually, it hangs.
Yes, the phone shows that is connected to the pc. The USB connection pic comes up at the notification bar.
Well, I've been given just one cable for both USB and data connection. Haven't tried a new one because I don't have any. :/

You can practically find these things in Cracker Jacks boxes; either borrow one from a friend or spend a couple of bucks to get a new USB<>micro-USB data cable and see how that works.
