Pentile Matrix issues?

Does anyone actually have issues with PentileMatrix? I know it's not great, but I wanted to know if anyone was bothered to the point that they won't buy an SGS phone? Personally I don't care too much as it didn't appear as bad as an iPhone 3GS zoomed out all the way.

Says WHO?

Who says that PenTile isn't great? PenTile technology is enabling OLED panels to reach higher levels of resolution, overcoming manufacturing design rule limitations.

This is an example of a glass half full, where most folks dissing PenTile see a glass half empty.

Thanks! I knew there had to be a good side to PenTile. Makes me excited again for getting the Epic soon!

Yeah, after seeing the screen in person on a Vibrant, I really don't care about its "flaws" as its much better than what I currently have.

I disagree- I do see the issues with sharp text. SAMOLED is great for pictures and video- reasons that aren't MANDATORY on a smartphone. If you want a multimedia phone 1st - then this screen tech is for you- if you want to READ 100's of email a day- send 100's of SMS messages, and read boatloads of web content- SOME people may complain of eyestrain due to the grainy screen appearance due to the pentile display.

Had they used edgelit LED- they'd have had the sharpest display AND greatest black levels- but TERRIBLE outdoor viewing and perhaps bad off axis viewing (this is getting better with edge lit lately) so all screen tech is a trade off.

I love the color- but NOW I finally understand why the Galaxy S line has a separate brightness control for the web browser- to diminish the rastering of the text that is made more evident by full brightness contrast. The text is never truely black due to pentile- but white is amazingly bright. This is probably why contacts, the phone dialer, SMS messaging, the calendar are all BLACK WITH WHITE OR COLORED TEXT- they're easier to read on a pentile screen and use less battery than white background with black text used on all HTC apps and the web.

Not sure I'll get used to the all black look- but I love all the other features- ESPECIALLY touchwiz (way better than SENSE IMHO.) I hope I'll get used to the pentile- but I highly doubt I'll do as much web browsing as I did on the 4.3" Evo TFT screen- smooth readable text I'll take any day.

There is no GOD phone- they all have their tradeoffs.

Yeah, everything has pros and cons. You can't really get everything in one package. The Evo had great text, but TERRIBLE gaming and 3D rendering. The SGS phones have ok text, but AMAZING gaming and rendering. I noticed the jagged edges, but it didn't bother me at all.

It will probably not happen, but it would be really cool if the Epic actually didn't have Pentile. After all, it is the Galaxy S Pro!... No, this won't happen.

LMAO! You're right it won't happen.

Don't get me wrong- I'm not all doom and gloom hating on the pentile- but I'd love great sharp text AND vibrant color- in this respect- I have to give it to Apple- they addressed this the best with the iP4 display- but 3.5 is still too small ESPECIALLY for a phone that tall. Either make the phone smaller w/ the same size screen or up the phone width just a bit to allow for a 4".

Their battery life and sharp text/color accuracy vibrancy is the best compromise IMHO right now- shame it's too small for me- and on an OS that I'm not crazy about- oh, and no keyboard model after 3+ years kills me too.

Man, I miss the sharp text on my Evo . I did see the iPhone 4 and the resolution was ridiculously good, but it's still an iPhone: Incredibly boring IMO. I read somewhere that the jagged text is caused by a problem between the edge of the text and the white next to it. If this was true, it would be cool if there was an app that would change your browser whites to a grey or something like that. Also, does anyone know if rgbw is better than rgbg? I couldn't find an answer anywhere. Thanks.

It is all personal preference. I had no issues with the super amoled screen, but thats not to say after longer work that I wouldnt find issues. But aftr ~30min I could not find a problem. As for the 'god' phone I couldnt agree more. There are many reasons why the epic isn't that phone. Its not ruggedized, the battery life will be pretty bad until we get extended, the camera is < the evo's, for me the screen size isnt 4.3 (and I could ALWAYS use higher resolutions), touchwiz may rub people the wrong way, and some may be more brand loyal and not like it because it isnt that brand. I could keep going, but for now this is the closest thing to a perfect phone that I can get on my network.

I suppose tiny text is slightly blurry on my regular AMOLED Nexus, but it's never bothered me. A quick double tap focuses and reflows anything I want to read so I rarely find myself staring at tiny text anyway. If it's not a significant problem on regular AMOLED, I'm sure a bigger screen with Super AMOLED will be just fine.

See my post in this thread-

As far as the brightness of the white vs. text- this is WHY and how I feel the brightness slider works in the web browser of the Galaxy- the white background appears most affected- and does become easier to read- it's just odd and my natural reaction was to crank it up because I'm used to reading off a whiter display. That said, I work off a color calibrated screen anyway- and it's significantly reduced contrast/brightness than the SAMOLED so I really should give that reduced brightness in the browser anyway another look.

Well that is interesting...

Oh and I finally got to use the captivate and same results with tmobile's iteration. The text in web pages didnt look bad at all, and I think the eye strain has more to do with focusing on such a small screen then anything else.
