People having issues with Gmail notifications

Try Inbox. Had the issue of getting late emails and sometimes none at all and Inbox seems to be working a lot better

With Gmail, make sure it's set to sync within system settings > accounts > google. Also check to make sure your update intervals are set to push or immediate.

There is an issue with this and plenty of threads on it. The issue is mainly when the device is in sleep mode.

Couple of things:
Try the GMail app
Try changing the APN.

I use the Gmail stock app that is already on the phone and have had no issues.
