Percentage Drain Discharge when screen is off per hour typical for S6 active?

I've recently just got a new S6 active, coming from windows phone 10 on a Nokia Icon.

On the icon, using Insider Pro, i would see a discharge rate of about 2% per hour when the screen was off, no matter if bluetooth was on or off and other services as well.

Now to the S6 active.. the other day i ran similar tests using GSam battery monitor.
I swear I was also seeing about 2% per hour, at least then i was.. i've been toying with new apps since then, now i cant go below 3% per hour.

So i'm asking.. for a typical screen off period.. what rate per hour is considered Normal for this phone? Also.. waking up, i might be at 99-100%, then after 15 minutes i drop to 96% or lower, easily, just from reading emails.

Also.. gsam is a pretty good app, but are there any others that work well showing both discharge and charge rates?

I'm also wondering if any of these apps that promise to save on battery life are worth trying.. i had tried one, i think it was du battery.. and it had tons of adware and i think made things worse in terms of the phone being sluggish too..

I just discovered JuiceDefender... not sure if its worth trying or not?

EDIT: i must say, i turned it to airplane mode, turned the screen off.. over 59 minutes ZERO percent drain, on the nokia icon this would never happen..
Still interested in hearing typical % per hour drains with screen off and without airplane mode though.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

IMO this is a pretty subjective topic because we've all got different apps, preferences and settings on our devices. What I can tell you is that, PRE 5.1.1 update, some of us were getting stellar battery life with little screen off drain. There's been discussion as to what causes this drain, but there's no definitive answer. I for one, am hoping that the Marshmellow update fixes this issue.

I'm not in a position to test my battery life with airplane mode on for an hour, so I couldn't give you much feedback there. At night, if I forget to plug in, it will usually drop around 10-12% with screen off.

I can unplug my phone before going to sleep and while sitting all night it drops only 1 to 2 percent max with sync on. So after 7 to 8 hours 2% max with sync on. I have all the bloat disabled and don't have any social media apps syncing. I'm running latest update as well; 5.1.1. I have an LG Vista also and it doesn't lose any battery while sitting, 0%. I've got a galaxy S3 and it drops 1 to 2% per hr sitting idle. Ran it the same way as well. They have definitely improved the software since the GS3 days. I can garauntee it's an app causing the drain.

My last test, lasting 1 hour since screen was off with Gsam is showing 2.2%/hr drain (screen off) with location services off. I've tried various things, but i cant pinpoint where the s6 active is draining most.. biggest ones are always in the Android System (17%) or kernel 15.7%.. if i try turning off wifi, then the phone radio spikes up to compensate. I'm wondering if its related to Aquamail.. i have it syncing a bunch of google mail folders (imap push on may 2 of them out of say 7.. and also the same for exchange.. with interval checks at 30 mins though, so not sure (I do have 6 aquamail widget icons to show notifications and i also run with nova prime + tesla unread badges).. Next step, ill turn off tesla unread and see if i can get below that 2.2 per hour off rate.

For what it's worth, I unplug my Galaxy S6 phone around 6am when I get up and it's down to 20 or 30% by noon. Dead by 4 pm.
My old Samsung Galaxy S3 would still show 50% charge at bed time!
Typically I unplug at 6 am. I listen to a book via blutooth headphones on my 30 minute commute. Once I'm in the office, I'm connected to Wifi and usually leave my blutooth and location ON. Dead by mid afternoon....

Galaxy S6, 2550 mAh. I can see that happening.

Galaxy S6 Active, 3500 mAh. I don't see that happening. Actually, even with the battery drain issue, I never drop below 20%.

I discovered on the s6 active.. (not that surprising i guess), that if i turn ON airplane mode.. 0% for the most part, drop per hour when screen is off.. turn it back on.. i'm typically around 2.2 (at best) to the usual 3.2-3.5% per hour rate when the screen is off and not using it much (using gsam monitor, the option to calculate since screen last on).. on a given 8 hour day with very milld use of the phone throughout the day, the 8 hour average seems to be around 7.5% i believe (per hour).. typical on rate of discharge, just browsing around is about 9% per hour..

I unplug mine at 7am. By noon with normal usage I'm down between 90%-92% remaining. By the time I get home around 5 I'm down to about 81%-79%.

I'm really thinking about getting this phone now that they have a 64GB version. Is better life still stellar with this device as professional reviews have stated?

I have the 64 gig version but The fully charged battery is down to 15% within 6 hrs.
I think I will do a factory reset on it and see how long it lasts after that. When I first got it, I foolishly did as the set up suggested and held it back to back to my old phone (Galaxy III) and it copied everything (apps, contacts, etc.) from my old phone. My old Galaxy III (for two years) would last 15+ hrs on a charge. But in it's last 6 months, battery life was dwindling, so I'm wondering if some rouge battery sucking program was transferred as well.

With my s6 active 64.. i still cant do better than having about 59% left at days end with minimal use starting at 92-100% over 8 hours.

I've tried everything, juice defender, disabling certain apps, disabling email with aqua mail.. best i can see is maybe 3% discharge with very minimal use while the screen is off on a good day.

If i run spotify with the screen off, my discharge rate after 25 minutes is about 7.5% hour.. is this also typical? I think with the screen on and maybe using GPS, i was hitting 17% per hour, or 17% / hour if a game is running.

I hate to wipe the phone and do things one by one if this drain is typical for this particular phone.

On average i see in GSAM, a discharge rate of about 4.5-5.5 per hour with the screen off.. can anyone else with the s6 active 64gb verify they see the same rate of discharge when the screen is off? (about 0% if on airplane mode) (using the GSAM app).

Just for the heck of it, try uninstalling GSM battery monitor and monitor it manually. See how much battery you battery monitor is using.

Ok, gave it a shot, mostly the same.. between 3-4% with the phone basically not on at any point over the course of an hour.
It might have reduced consumption by maybe 0.75 % per hour, but hard to say.

That said.. discharge rates when the phone is turned off (screen)over an hour of 3-4% pretty typical, or worth wiping and trying one by one to figure out which app causes it (vs 0% if on airplane mode). Like i said depending on what you are doing when its on, the rates are anywhere from 8% to 18% depending on if browsing (maybe 8%), spotify with phone off (8%) or gps + spotify on battery (17+ percent), i think to run a game might be somewhere near 14% per hour discharge. I'm guessing all this is just the way it goes, though having that 4% guaranteed drain to offset use makes it drain even faster.

Another stat to pass along.. on the s6 active 64..

If you launch a 3d game.. say the vr cedar point app.. let the phone sit with it running.. 33 minutes goes by and so does 14%.. gsam shows a rate of discharge of roughly 25%.. thats 4 hours of 3d game time.. i'm thinking thats a pretty good discharge rate actually.

Did you disable all the bloatwares? I'm not a typical user. In my background, I have my Android wear running, my coin card always connected, whatsapp and tweeter always on, 4 email account pushing. Location using Wi-Fi and cellar. Location history off. In this case, on Wi-Fi around 2%, on 4g with medium signal 3-4%
Your battery is totally fine if your are getting 8% browsing. Tried greenify all apps before screen off and see

Which apps did you disable that are bloatwares? Curious..
Your saying your worst drain with screen off per hour is around 3-4%? Matches mine then i guess. Your using greenify app? I had tried it, didnt notice a difference.

I will say, from time to time this phone really drags.. unreal considering how many cores it has.. i basically have to power down and turn back on(restart doesnt help).. i'm not sure why it does this.. i NEVER had this issue with my nokia windows phone.. frustrating

Package disabler is what everyone here using. Greenify will help turn off some opened apps. For me, it works on some news apps. Without root, you need to manually run greenify when needed.

You can't compare windowphone to Android. If you never use a Android, then just use this as a benchmark for your next android phone.

I didnt see a huge difference doing greenify to a few apps or trying the hibernation... On package disabler.. which bloatware did you disable.. some of the pink labeled bloatware are items that are needed i think.
