Periodically texts don't come through when I'm using WiFi. Could it be my router?

I've started to notice that when I leave my house, I sometimes get several text messages with time stamps from 20-30 min earlier. When I'm at home, I am always connected to my WiFi. As an experiment, when I've known that I was missing a text, I turned off my WiFi and sure enough, the text comes through. This also happens sometimes when I try to send a text. It bounces back saying it couldn't be sent. Then I turn off the wifi on my phone and it works just fine.

Any ideas on what is causing this? Could it be a setting on my router that's blocking messages from being sent/received on my wifi connection?

Thanks!

Normal SMS and MMS messages do not use wifi but only use mobile data.
Is your phone set to turn off the mobile data when at home?

If your phone supports "wifi calling" and your carrier also supports it, by turning that on, the SMS system will often use the wifi system like the calls do.

I recall some phones having this kind of issue if you're on wi-fi. Which phone do you have? Does it have a Smart Network Switch option in the Advanced Wi-fi settings? If so, make sure it's turned off.
