Perma-temp root successful.... But WiFi tether says "Not Rooted"

I've spent hours reading and researching... so I come to you all after exhausting my searching ability... please help :-/

I followed all perma-temp rooting instructions and did it successfully. Zedomax's tutorials were great (htcevohacks and YouTube vids), and my root results followed his exactly.

But... things went awry went I launched WiFi Tether (the app he/htcevohacks.com recommends). As soon as I launched it, I got a prompt about a kernal and/or my device not being rooted. Two options after that... ignore or exit. Both lead to fails.

I don't understand why it doesn't work. Rooting went well, but app says I'm not rooted.

I read somewhere that I should check hboot or su to see if it's rooted.... but.... I think that requires a reboot, which wipes the root. So the hboot / su wouldn't be reflective of a root.

Any ideas???

Thanks!!
Andrew

Revolutionary is a very quick and easy method for full root depending on what HBOOT you have. Is there a specific reason that you are doing the temp/perma root instead of the full root?

First thing we need to know is if you are willing to perma root... Secondly what Hboot version are you on. Without this info there isnt much more we can help with besides just speculate what COULD or COULD NOT work.

vanjangles & jondevere: I liked the idea of perma temp root because it's not permanent and allows me to revert to original setup in case I need to warranty exchange the device, sell it, etc, etc.

But, I am open to the idea of perm root. It is a little intimidating. I briefly reviewed the process I saw on htcevohacks.com . Is it much more involved than the perma root process??

How do I check Hboot? I read somewhere I need to power off, and then while powering on, hold the volume-down button and the Hboot/SU will pop up. It didnt work for me.

Thanks!!

Make sure you have fastboot unchecked prior to attempting to boot into the bootloader
