Persistent notification in Oreo

I posted this comment in another thread but I figured it best to just start my own.

I do not like the persistent notification I'm getting while running swipe navigation. Any ideas how to turn this notification off without turning off the ability for this to be active over other apps? I never had this issue on nougat. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

And now this happens after EVERY SINGLE TEXT I SEND using mood messenger. Seriously, WTF is with the notifications in Oreo?! It's terrible so far. Strongly considering reverting back to Nougat and disabling system updates. So irritating!

Go into where it says settings on that notification and just turn it off.

Actually the mood messages one I can swipe away, I didn't realize that. But the notification in the original post is persistent and it's not as simple as just turning it off without turning off the ability to have it function properly, or function at all. I found an app called AutoNotification that I'm using now to block the persistent notifications, but I'd rather not have to use that.

For anyone else who's willing to comment, how about we just assume I'm not a total dummy and I've already tried the obvious... such as clicking settings on the notification and attempting to turn it off ;)

Thanks!

You can't press/hold the notification and swipe to the right to reveal the settings cog?

You should be able to scroll within that menu to the app in question and disable the notifications for it.

I know about all that, but actually nevermind I was just confused with the layout... It seems I may have mistaken turning off the notifications for turning off the actual functionality of the app... My mistake. Honestly, it's all laid out a bit funky to me and it was slightly confusing at first, second, and even third glance. But I now understand that this is strictly just about the notifications. I guess I was just confused because I know apps sometimes require persistent notifications to keep the app running in the background, and on nougat it seemed more straight forward as far as hiding the notifications for those apps, while on Oreo now it seems a bit less straight forward as far as the layout and/or wording of things. The way it looked to me until now is that if I turned this off it would stop the apps from functioning properly after a reboot or whatever. I was looking at it all wrong. Guess I just had one of those 'head in the clouds' type days today.
