Phantom program?

last week a couple of icons appeared on my home screen, when tapped opens my browser and takes me to ad-x.co.uk then takes me to the play store right to the page that will let me download the app that the phantom icon on my homescreen shows me.
what the heck is putting these icons on my homescreen ? anybody know. surely it cant be google
how do i stop this?

Its a recent app you installed which is doing this. Its an ad. google recently changed the policy so that these kind of ads are prohibited.

get a list of apps you installed recently and look at the description of the app. or there are many apps in market which identifies the ad network used in your installed app
