Hi everyone, have had my phone for about a month now, and I am noticing that everytime I click a text message it takes around 15-20 sec to load and sometimes it crashes. Has this happened to anyone else? is there a fix?

You may be having some memory (ram) issues, I would suggest getting an application which can monitor/disable unused applications. Try systempanel, it is a great app! Also, uninstall apps you rarely use, some may be running in the background on start up.

Try getting Advanced Task Killer and set it to automatically kill unused apps whenever you lock your phone. it works wonders for me and it saves a whole bunch of battery life.

How many text messages are in the thread you're trying to open? You should delete the threads occasionally to free up space and make the message app a little quicker.

bad idea. *insert generic rant about how that app is BS and does more bad than good*

Yeah I would suggest just finding the real reason why your phone is acting weird. All app killers do is put a bandaid on what could end up being a bigger problem. I would suggest looking at how many messages you have in there. A lot of people have reported the phone slows when you have a lot of text messages in there. If that's the case get a different sms app that will handle the larger amount of sms's better.

Huh.. Guess I'll go uninstall advanced task killer. Thanks, I didn't know it did more harm than good. What would you suggest for something to kill my apps though? I don't want 20 things running in the background all the time.

My GF's Incredible was running slow yesterday, I told her to uninstall ATK. Guess what? Her phone has been running perfect since then.

That App never saw and never will see the light of day on my X, too many people getting negative effects from running it.

ATK can be helpful if you want to close certain apps, make sure to manually select the apps you want close or it will close all. Then again, this phone should be able to handle multi-tasking the majority of your apps.

You don't need one. If a task repeatedly won't close you don't need it on your phone. I have yet to find an app like that. Your phone will run fine with 30MB of ram or more. The system starts freeing up memory when you get to 40, or when an app needs more than you have free. The phone does a really good job of handling terminating apps.

I ran ATK for about 2 weeks after I got my phone and had all kinds of issues. Uninstalled it and my phone has run perfect since. This isn't a blackberry killing that mentality of watching resources will be hard but you don't need to worry about it with android phones.

I delete sms text once a week and my phone flys. When I first got my phone I thought the are thing, wow this is slow. It helps allot as far as atk the worst app I ever installed.

Thank you Qazme for your help. You post a lot and are always very helpful. Guess I'm used to my storm eating up memory and having to do battery pulls. Haha I'll run without a task killer and see what happens for the next few days.

From my experience you find your phone will run much better, you can use system panel to monitor running apps and have the ability to close them from there.

A lot of the apps that show in the running list are put to "sleep" by the Android OS, (not actually running)

I try to help when and if I can! That's the point of the forums, regardless of what people think. So thanks for the thanks!

Yeah that's what I do I run System Panel and if my phone starts running goofy I can go in there and find out which one it is and terminate it if I need to. I do not run the auto shut down stuff that comes with the paid version though. Great app tells you everything about your system including data connection etc etc.

Yeah that why people have a belief they need to end it. Basically if you run that game you play and close it and Android realizes, "hey he uses this a lot", it is going to store it in memory. Why? So it open faster for you and is quicker to access for the system. I think apps are also killed out of there on a timed switch because I have noticed mine normally runs between 80-100MB at all times. Sometimes dropping if I have an app doing anything. But if I just let me phone sit for awhile and not really do anything on it I will come back and have like 120-150MB free and less stored apps!

Just let it do it's thing.....I came from BB too and realize that it's habit to look, check, double check, go oh I don't need that running and shut stuff down. My suggestion just use the phone and before you know it you will be thinking, "Damn it's been a week and I haven't done a battery pull, oh crap I need to check the memory I haven't checked it in a weeks!" Then you'll get in there and everything will be fine.

Bingo. Once the amount of text messages in a given thread nears or tops 1000, you'll notice some severe slowdown when going to open the thread. The fix? Just delete the thread and start over.

I started to get a slight slow down at about 200 so i delete them regularly.

Qazme, I will try system panel, seems like a good app.

System Panel is a wonderful app. Lets you spy on your system when you get that Crackberry urge, but I never had to touch anything!
