Phone Acting Strange Since 4G Outage

Since the nationwide 4G outage my phone has been acting strange. I do not get service as well anymore. I sent out texts and and occasionally the other person does not receive it. Others text me and I do not receive their messages. After being told that they sent me a message the previous day, I shut down my phone and restarted it multiple times and finally after one of the times I received messages that were sent to me but i never got from several contacts. I will also lose internet connection on the phone at random times. Will go from really good 3G to nothing, restart my phone and its back to 3G.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I never had any of these issues prior to the nationwide 4G outage issue with Verizon. Can anyone tell me what I may be experiencing?

Thanks for the help.

Yup. I called verizon and they bounced me around couple times from reg service to second level to htc tech. They elevated it and said they would get back to me, seems like a lot of people have had this issue. I for one used to have very good 4g data as i am in the nyc area. However, ever since the outage my data has been spotty at best. going from 4g to 3g, to nothing at all, never staying on 4g for more than a few seconds

Same in Minneapolis

Live in northern suburb of Mpls, in and out of 4G, used to to be solid 4G, 2 miles from a Verizon tower

I must live close to you and ive had all the same issues. I thought the annoying text message problems were coming from handsent. Glad to know I'm not the only one with problems but this is getting irritating

I'm not having anything weird text-wise, but I have noticed 4G data signal appearing spottier than usual, and even a couple of occasions where data has disappeared completely, and only a reboot would bring it back. In addition, my phone has started behaving very badly as far as battery is concerned. Even with VERY little use, it is noticeably heating up and warm to the touch, and the battery is lasting not even half a day. I'm not sure if this is due to Verizon's network problems, or if I have downloaded some program from the marketplace which is misbehaving and gobbling CPU constantly...

If I dont get it sorted, will have to get onto Verizon, because the battery life right now is unusable. It's been totally fine for the past few weeks until now. Very frustrating.

I would try turning 4g off while Verizon is still having problems and see how it does. Cell phone radios boost the power to the radio when signal gets week or is lost, as the phone searches for a lost signal or a better strength signal. My bet is that your phone is going into high power radio state searching for the weak or lost 4g signal. As the signal is perpetually bad, the phone is staying in the high powered radio state for extended periods of time. This would explain the heat and battery issues.

Couple that with the fact that LTE is a high energy signal, and you have a double wammy on your battery.

Just my thoughts.

This started happening to mine today. I've been having anywhere from 14 hours to a day and a half of battery life, 4g only, depending on use. Today my battery was completely drained by 4:30 and was very warm to the touch. Battery drain has NEVER been an issue. I'm going to try pulling the battery and the SIM to see if that helps at all. Really strange to have this happen after excellent battery life.

I have the same issue, I thought it was just me, I am probably going to call VZW today and see what they say.

My signal has been a little weak since the outage. I usually get between 4-6 bars, now I get constant 3-4 and lucky if I get 5. It's still fast tho, but I'm worried about battery life.

That oughta be good :D Let us know what your rep has to say... cough...

JFTR, it has been my view for quite a while now that perhaps the major problem with "no data" is that 4G is being synced before it is ready. IOW, your phone and the Tower will negotiate a 4G connection when the 4G connection is still too weak. This then causes the phone to lose the signal and during the searching process keep oscillating back and forth between its options (1x, 3G, 4G) and kinda gets lost (no data) and finally may lock onto yet another unusable 4G signal and the whole process starts all over. Solution? Keep the 4G signal from locking on at weak levels. IOW, wait until the 4G signal is stronger before negotiating successfully for its use. This can be done half at the Tower (server-side, if you will) and half at the phone (OTA radio software update). I think we may be half way there now... until the OTA update arrives. Just my opinion. And... it will get even better as more areas have 4G coverage and less switching between 3G and 4G is required.

Alright, I just got off the phone with them and they fixed my problem in less then 5 minutes. The problem was caused when the network went down, and when it came back up, some of the thunderbolts would not connect correctly causing the connection issues. When I called customer service the woman brought a tech guy on the phone and he had me take the battery out of the phone WHILE IT WAS POWERED UP and then take the SIM card out and he did some kind of "network reset" to my SIM card and now all the issues are gone. Worth giving them a call and seeing if this fixes your problem. IMO VZW has the best customer service hands down, they are always so helpful and will make conversation with you during the luls while on the phone (IE when your phone is booting up).

I'm glad you were able to get it worked out. Can't say I'm having any noteworthy problems myself. I agree on VZW CS too. They are conscientious and nice. But not usually all that tech savvy.

I agree with the OP. I have had several issues since the outage. I have not received several known text messages and I have had to jump from 4g/3g to the non-Tbolt 3g to get network service. The last 2 days my HTC Weather keeps showing me in Tempe, AZ even though I am in EST.

I'm hoping the Tbolt update is a cure-all because this phone (and Verizon) has become a big disappointment.

My phone began doing something strange during the outage but it hasn't since 4G has come back on. I would randomly have a "half reset" of some sort. Basically my home screen icons and icons in the pull up menu all disappeared and reloaded. The process was quick and harmless but it did make me go "Huh"? I've even seen the HTC: Quietly Brilliant screen for a second or two during this ordeal.

I have no idea as to how this is even remotely relevant to the outage but it hasn't happened since so I'm going to assume it was.

I had the same issues since the 4g outage my phone would go from 3g to 1x to nothing. Before the 4g outage LTE on/off would not work for me. After the techs at VZW did all they could they wanted to do a hard reset but the guy told me to try and install the LTE on/off again and my phone went back to working immediately. It is working a lot better. now.
