This LG phone is Marshmallow so leave now if that's disturbing :) (I will keep it that way if at all possible).

Connecting bluetooth to desktop Win 7 with speakers is great for Media audio (keypresses, Notification sound). But not catching phone rings. The gear setting for the paired Bluetooth (Win 7 device) entry has a checkbox for Media audio, but does not have anything else. 1 line, 1 checkbox only. No "Phone audio" checkbox; no call audio checkbox. I paired and repaired. No competing bluetooth devices to my knowledge, none even "available".

If it matters, call settings are VoLTE ON, Wi-Fi Calling Disabled (OFF).
I tried turning off Bluetooth location scanning and restarting.
Thanks for all you kind responders who make the world better.

I don't think you'll be able to get that to work, even if the phone had a more current OS version. The Bluetooth device has to be designed to handle Phone Audio, and I doubt a computer's Bluetooth would be designed for that use case.

Thank you for the thought, though let me clarify that I am solely using Bluetooth "unidirectionally" here, and only for sound, not dialing; and not hearing the conversation through the speakers. Incoming ringtone is all I'm expecting to get, so that the computer speakers play what would be played on the Android phone. I have a recollection that this worked in the past - that is, that when the phone was called, it played over the speakers, like email notifications and keypresses still do. However I am unsure that the option "Phone audio" existed; I just figured that was the explanation why the rings are only sounding on the phone.

It's disappointing because when I set the Settings Volume for keypress, notifications and ringtone, all 3 play nice and loudly over the computer. It's just that when the phone rings due to an incoming call, it doesn't play over the speakers. At least, it doesn't currently.

Since no one else replied, I assume that no one with this setup sees "Phone audio". Yet does anyone hear their phone ring over the computer speaker with this setup? (And not just when setting the ringtone volume, but with an incoming call)

I don't know this for sure, but I think phone ringtones aren't treated the same as regular media. When my phone is connected to my car system and the phone rings, I don't hear the phone ringtone over the car system -- it actually plays on the phone speaker (but I think the car system plays a separate beep tone).
