Phone becoming unchargeable

So today my battery was pretty low(18%) and I needed to charge it. I went and plugged my phone in, except it wasn't charging. I got pissed off, because throughout my experience with Samsung merchandise I have had to change the battery and chargers around 10 times each.
Now, what I did was not buy another charger, but plug in my tablet (which is also Samsung) and mysister's phone(also Samsung), and they were charging. So why not my phone? OK then, I took an USB cable and connected my phone to my laptop. Finally, the phone showed it was charging. Except, 5 minutes later when I checked my phone I saw I had 10% of battery left. From an initial 18%. I googled my problem, saw some "solutions" but when I tried them, they did not work.
So now,I am kind of desperate.
I can offer you some additional info:
-The charger I used and the USB are both 1 week old
-My battery is 2 weeks and a half old
-My phone is around 3 years old
-My Android version is kind of old, I can't update the android via the phone's automatic update.
-Also, I don't know if this is relevant, but I started my phone in safe mode. Connected the phone to my laptop again, and I got KICKED OUT of safe mode. Just for that.
-I haven't tried turning my phone off and plugging it in while it's off, but I am kind of skeptical about that

With that being said, I end my report. Hope there is help for me.
