Android Central Question

I've seen some folks post regarding other phones but wasn't sure if the Samsung interface had a role to play. I have found I have missed multiple calls while my headphones are in - because the phone rang through the speakers instead of pausing my music and ring in headphones.

This is the most basic of situations. This can't be a "feature" - as there is no logical reason for this to be this way.

Welcome to Android Central! Are these Bluetooth or wired headphones?

Hmm -- I know that this is the usual behavior for Bluetooth, but I guess it's also with wired headphones. The logic is probably that if you connect your phone via Bluetooth or headphone jack, the listening device you're connecting to could potentially be turned off or muted (e.g., turning off a car's stereo system). This would also then lead to you missing the ring. Having the phone ring through its own speakers helps to prevent that (but I can see how that doesn't help if you have very good noise-isolating headphones on).

I get your point, but that's going to be the case in a few situations - whereas having music on, you're definitely not going to hear your phone ring. It's totally backwards.

I'm having the same problem. This should be a no-brainer and is unacceptable, all phones should ring in the earpiece.

How can we get a fix to this?

My previous Samsung galaxy did ring in the earpiece

So my phone is through Verizon; my family's is through T-Mobile. At the T-Mobile store, their S9+ will reduce the volume on the BT music (mine does not) during a txt or call. The Verizon phone does not.

Anyone else seen different behavior between carriers?

Still can't figure this out. It's a BASIC function of a PHONE that plays music... c'mon... maybe it's Samsung and not Android?

Samsung SoundAssistant helps yo slove this problem , install the app,

Change the option in that app - alerts through headphone off.

Any ideas on how to make the phone NOT ring in your earpiece when listening to music, even if the phone is put on mute/off mode in terms of rings? On my old phone, it usually just paused when there was a call and I'd know what to do, but it doesn't seem to give me that option here!

My s9+ rings through the phone speakers when I have a wired headset plugged in and only very soft through the headset and it does pause the music.

Still an issue after latest update. Very annoying to ring so everyone else can here when you have headphones on. it should ring in ear, so you can push the button to answer call and keep going - vs check why your music muted all of a sudden (at least it does that now, but it's still a sloppy work-around).

I have a galaxy s9 running pie. I had same problem. I was unhappy to find samsung phone now has this issue. I was happy when I found that sound assistant ver. 2.3. 03.0 fixed it. . Unhappy that later versions did not. Unhappy again to find that this version stopped fixing this issue soon after. Happy again when ver 3.1.01. 1 fixed it once again. Unhappy again now that fix doesnt work any more. Who should I be angry with about all tje flip flops? Google or samsung?
