Second issue while charging...

Last week had issue of slow charging...

https://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-8/850251-slow-charging.html#post6082132

This morning around 6:05 am I put phone on charge with about 28% battery left to charge before going to work... An hour later I check on my phone and see time says 6:22 am and only charged up to around 44%.

I unplug and try to unlock phone but it's completely locked. I had to press power and volume down to force the power off. Rebooted phone and functioning normally now. Odd and concerning. Gonna have to charge when I get to the office to see if charges normally.

Anyone else experiencing phone frozen/locked up like this?

using Note 8 SINCE 1 month now no ISSUE but I am using Indian version
I would suggest do a hard reset or take it to Samsung for check up

My phone was a pre-order and got early delivery so had it at least a couple months now and been pretty much Flawless up until this last week. The only notable change I can think of is that AT&T update pushed out on 15th.

If this becomes more of a regular issue then I'll have to consider stuff like doing a reset but for now we'll keep an eye on it and just wondering if anybody else was experiencing this.

Darn, happened again this morning. Got into work and put phone on charger at about 20% at 7:30 am. Had to unplug and use the phone for a moment to check email at 8:30 and almost 9am I see the AOD frozen at 8:45am at 84% charge. Completely frozen and no response to any button input. Power+Volume down to force shutdown and restarted.

Yesterday it was at home with Samsung cable and adapter. Today at work with an Aukey cable and adapter.

If this becomes a daily thing then I'm going to have to reset this phone. What a pain.

Well... just to document to keep track... froze again when charging the phone.

I always run it down to about 20% then charge and put it on the charger a couple of hours ago and shows 100%... but it's frozen. Volume down+Power to force shut down and powered back up. We officially have a repeatable issue. I average about 18 hours between so battery seems good.

I mentioned elsewhere besides only the October update, the only thing I can think of that can affect charging is that I have had fast charging disabled pretty much since I got the phone. I'm going to try re-enabling fast charge and reboot the phone and see what happens the next time I need to re-charge. If that doesn't fix it then most likely a restore.

Doesn't freeze or reboot any other time. Only when charging.

that's strange, really sound like a software thing, if you can't do it yourself could you bring it to a Samsung store and have them reflash it, I had the moisture in the charging port error (well known on s8/s8± as well) and that seems to have fixed it, not just factory restore but actually reflash firmware

I'm in South Florida so I don't think any Samsung stores here that do service.

I did just do a recharge this evening after letting it drain to 20% and it actually charged to 100% without freezing for once and the only change I made was re-enabling fast charge. One doesn't mean anything so I'll keep trying.

If it fails again, I've backed up pics and stuff so I'll probably do a factory reset.

I've had similar issues with my Note freezing, so have many others. If you Google Samsung Note 8 freezing you'll see we are not alone.

I first assumed it was software related, so after this happened a few times I factory reset, still it persists. Read an article that recommends calling Samsung help, so I will be doing so in the morning. I'll update when I have answers. If you want to call their number is 8007267864.

I'll definitely note the number in case. Thx.

I did the November update last night, battery was down to about 25% and put the phone on charger before sleeping and woke up and phone charged and didn't freeze. Two times in a row no freezing but the update forced a reboot on phone and usually I don't reboot between full run down of battery so will keep eye on it.

Time for a factory reset which should fix the issue. Do you do weekly maintenance on your note 8?

Weekly maintenance? What all is involved with that?
The Device Maintenance feature in settings clears cache and residual files and code from updates which may hinder performance. Normally Android doesn't really need this, but Samsung phones are so chock full of extra features they slap on top of Android that they require a bit more maintenance than the usual Android phone.

If you're a gamer, you can look at it perhaps as Vanilla Skyrim vs Heavily Modded Skyrim. Modded Skyrim needs a lot of tools and cleanup and maintenance to keep it running smoothly with very few crashes. Vanilla just works out of the box and doesn't need the file and script tools.

There's also a setting on Samsungs (I think it's under Backup and Reset), where you can have it automatically perform a reboot once a week at a time you set if certain conditions are met.

Thank you

I contacted Samsung today, their answer was to have me send in the phone for them to check out. That would leave me without my Note 8 for about 2 weeks. Not sure if I'm going to send it in, or hopefully just wait for a software fix to be pushed.

Charged phone this morning from 20% and fully charged and OK. Even kept it cabled for another hour or two to see if it would freeze.

So, phone hasn't frozen/locked up on AOD in last 3 full charges After locking up 3 charges in a row starting last week. I even tested the wireless charging last night from 60% to Full to see if I was experiencing any wireless charge issues and that went well.

Only change I did after the last freeze was re-enable fast charging which I disabled shortly after receiving my phone and the November Security update and whatever normal app updates come up in App Store. I don't do daily/weekly reboots because I don't believe you should have to on a flagship and I've only run the Maintenance clean once since I've gotten the phone even though the one time I ran it I think was after my last freeze.

Maybe it was an app or combination of apps and an update has resolved it and just updating my progress while I see other people now experiencing freeze issues until I feel my issue is really resolved. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Since last post I've charged the phone 3 full times all from around 20% and the last time just this evening I had disabled Fast Charging to go back to my original setting preference, used my Aukey braided cable and charged no problems.

3x frozen and then the last 6x afterwards charged no problems. I'm going to chalk it up to some software glitch that got fixed with an app update or maybe the November update took care of it or a combination of both and feeling better about the phone. I may be taking a trip to China soon and need to feel my phone is not going to fail me when traveling out of country.

Thought I was out of the woods with this glitch....haven't been charging overnight or keeping it on the charger past 100%.

Woke up this morning and it was frozen again (not plugged into the charger). Notification light blinking, AOD dark. Did the reset and no issues. Frustrating.

I have to say, holding the power and volume rocker to reset the phone is the longest 6-7 seconds ever. Always feels like it won't reboot....and my mind starts racing about losing access to my phone for a couple of weeks while it's being repaired. Ugh.

I see this morning in Samsung Apps app that there is an update to the Samsung AOD app... maybe helpful in this situation since it happens on AOD?

Before sending phone off for a couple of weeks, have you erased the phone and did a factory restore/reset and run the phone basically clean for a charge cycle or two before sending it in? I still think your problem may be software and worth trying than losing your phone for a couple of weeks.
