I have an AT&T S3 that is running version 4.1.1. In the last week it has developed a new issue. When I plug it into my charger at home it will automatically go into Car Mode. If I shut down the car mode it will restart after 2 seconds. When in Car Mode it will also automatically start S-voice. It only does this on the charger that I use at home. I have a charger on my desk at work and it has never done it there. The charger at home is the same one that I have used every day since getting this phone and does charge the phone even though it is having this issue. It is not OEM , it?s Blackberry OEM from previous phone, but has worked flawlessly for several months, until this week. Any ideas other than the obvious get new OEM charger would be appreciated. I can do that, but have trouble believing that it worked fine for so long and then just screwed up.

What happens with the original Samsung charger that came with the phone?
Did your phone receive an update recently?
Did you install any apps around the time this started? Or have you changed any system settings/power management settings?

Not sure about this, but check Settings / Accessories, and see if any options are checked.

I can't find anything that looks like car mode on my S3. How would you activate this intentionally?

I can't find anything on my phone in settings either. The only time I see anything is when I plug in I get steering wheel icon in tray and if I go to notifications is says auto mode enabled.

When OEM charger is plugged in it works as designed. The phone has not received any new updates. I may have installed a couple of apps and that is a possible cause but all have been from the Play Store, nothing outside supplied. I have not changed any settings. The strange thing is that even though it happens with a non OEM charger, that charger worked great for several months.

Just because an app came from the Google Play Store doesn't mean that it didn't modify some profile/setting that's causing this behavior.
If you know what apps you've installed, you can uninstall them all, restart the phone and then see what happens. Or you could perform a Factory Reset and see if the problem goes away - if it does, then you know that it was an app or setting that was causing the problem.
Only you can determine if the annoying behavior is worth the effort of trying these things - without more specifics about the 3rd party charger, what apps you've installed, your software version, etc, I don't have any other suggestions.

To be sure I understand correctly, your phone is switching in/out of Car Mode even when it's not connected to a charger? Did you recently receive an OTA update?
You could simply disable S Voice and see what happens, or take the big step and perform a Factory Reset. If you do the latter, be sure you backup your SMS/MMS, Call Logs, Pictures/Videos; sync your Google account; if you use an alternate Launcher save your settings; etc.

I have exactly the same error as the original post. Whenever I plug in my charger it goes into car mode, s-voice flashes on and off, and it makes a binging sound. Also, whenever this error is triggered, the phone won't shut off without removing the battery. If I press the power button and select power off, it restarts immediately after powering off. This is even after having removed the charger. If I yank the battery and do a cold reboot, it will be fine again. I updated to 4.1.2 two weeks ago and this started two days ago. I have an original charger and an iPhone charger, both give the same error.
If anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this I'd really appreciate it.

Brackmaster,
If you haven't done a Factory Reset since getting the 4.1.2 OTA, that would be my first suggestion.
As far as what could be causing the weird behavior - who knows? It could be some app that you've loaded, or an interaction between a couple of apps, or even a problem with the phone itself. The carrier is going to require you to do a Factory Reset anyway, so you might as well just bite the bullet.
Be sure to sync your contacts, calendar, etc., and backup your SMS/MMS, Call Logs, and whatever else is important. Move all of your pictures/videos to your SDCard (if you have one) just to be on the safe side.

Had evo 2-3 years no problem. Not many apps ever installed but added Google Play last week and now have this "Phone in Car Mode" issue also...hmmm.

You might have a close look at the phone's or the cable's microUSB connector for dirt or fluff.

Car mode is triggered by a dock's pins 4&5 jumpered with an electrically resistance.
Dirt or moist fluff can act like a resistance.

Fix. Blow usb plug with compressed air then clean out with a small brush & a tiny bit of metho, cleaning alcohol, or something else that won't damage ur phone. Then blow it again. This worked for me
