With all the aftermarket monitoring tools out there I just thought it would be worth it to (re)mention these handy utilities from the Android Market (Phone Info and Circle Launcher). Both work fine on non-rooted phones, like mine.
Basically, Phone Info just auto-dials *#*#4636#*#*, the same as you could do on your keypad, to reveal lots of good phone information. Quick and easy.

Phone Info
Battery Info
Usage Statistics
Wifi Info
Circle Launcher is probably the best screen real-estate-saver I've come across. Basically just puts your apps into folders on the desktop to decrease clutter. Screenshot below. The "i" is the Phone Info icon. This is the view I get after tapping my "Utilities" button (i.e. screen dims temporarily to feature the circle of apps).
