Phone is looping after trying to restore stock

i had virtuous on my phone and tried to restore to stock rom with just root. i tried to do this through rom manager and it gets stuck on the white htc incredible screen. and when i boot to recovery and restore my virtuous rom it boots fine but as soon as i try to do anything it just reboots. what can i do / should i have done in the first place to prevent this?

i just want to get back to stock w/ root or if i can flash cm6.1 id rather try that.

try not using rom manager and go into recovery mode to install stock rom

lol well i actually just wanted to make sure it would work when i eventually wanted to do it. anyway i wiped everythin and flashed CM6.1 and it works beautifully. o well, thanks guys.
