Phone lagging, even after hard reset

Hi all,

My HTC one is barely 2 weeks old.

Since last night I've been having problems with 3 apps in specific: Facebook, Youtube and the Facebook messenger.

All of them freeze for a second or two before launching. The Youtube app especially takes longer, (about 3-4 seconds) before actually opening. The FB messenger app also freezes before opening when I click on a chat bubble.

I just did a hard reset on my phone and reinstalled everything, but the lag is still there.. What can I do? :\

Try turning on GPU rendering in developer options. To get there go to about>software>more>tap build number 7 times. Go into developer options>advanced and scroll down to force GPU rendering. This should hopefully help, failing that try emptying the cache of the above apps by going to settings>apps>click on the desired app and clear data and cache.

I tried what you suggested but unfortunately the apps are still as slow as before.

I'm clueless as to what could be causing the problem.. I have barely 10 apps installed.

I just checked my youtube app and it does indeed lag at start up but I believe that to be an issue with the app itself. As for Facebook try signing up for the beta releases on their Google+ page. This may help you. My messenger is snappy so I can't say why yours is slow. Do you have a lot of messages to load initially? Could you try archiving some of them?

I signed up for the beta program, and download the Facebook app. It's still slow when launching though. I get the black screen where I have to wait for a while..

I think I'm going to send my phone back for repair. It's just too slow for something that's barely 3 weeks old.

I bet this same lag on my facebook and messenger apps. All of this started when I installed 4.3. I'm really frustrated with this as I just bought the phone a month ago, and this firmware update has caused nothing but headaches.

I get the black screen sometimes and I'm on a 4.3.1 Cyanogenmod ROM. I think it's just the app itself. It's certainly not the phone, more the unoptimised apps.

I think you're right Dave. I think it's the Apps. But how come they launch so quickly once the phone is new, but slow down after 2-3 weeks if they're badly optimised to begin with?

Good question, I can't say to be honest. Facebook is clearly a resource hog and also poorly optimised. I'm thinking that the stock apps that arrive on the phone are older more stable less cluttered versions of the newer less stable more cluttered versions. Obviously the tech we have has a shelf life, as it's used more and more it wears and isn't quite as efficient as when you first used it. That's really the only thing I can think of.
