Hi there

For the past week my Nexus 5 incessantly turns the notification and music volume up to full blast even when I try to turn it down - when the volume is down and it is not acting up, when I try to turn it up it doesn't work.

Not only does the volume keep going up by itself but my phone never goes to sleep even if I press the sleep button. Holding down the decrease volume button and the power button no longer let's me take screenshots.

Does anyone have any clue on what could be causing this?

My phone is not rooted.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this persist in Safe Mode? https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2852139?hl=en

If it does, then it may be a hardware issue. Perhaps the Volume Up button is stuck in a pressed state. This might be why the phone won't sleep (since it thinks you're constantly pressing the Vol Up button), and why you can't take a screenshot (because the Vol Up pressed state might interfere with the Power/Vol Down button combination).

Hi!

These problems do still happen even when the phone is put in safe mode.

Do you have any possible solutions that could solve this? I'm not very hands on with the technical side of phones so have no idea where I would have to look to find the problem.

This has happened before but the problem went away after a day or two.

I appreciate your reply!

My guess is still that it's a problem with the volume button itself. I'd suggest bringing it to a repair shop and seeing if they can diagnose the problem and fix it. It might not cost much if they only have to replace the button (or maybe the internal contacts just have to be cleaned out).
