Phone number beside text message?

I've noticed in the stock messaging app it shows the contact phone number beside the received text instead of the name. Any possible fixes or is it just this way?

That happens when you have multiple phone numbers for a single contact.

Exactly.
This is to help you send texts to different numbers of the same contract within the save conversation.
