Phone numbers displayed in SMS messaging

My phone shows the name of a contact as well as their phone number in my sms messaging...how do I make the phone only display the contact's name and NOT their phone number?

I'd like to hear about this, too. As a side note, I have the same phone number in my People section, one as "Dad" and the other as "ICE"...in case of emergency. Sometimes the texts are from Dad sometimes from ICE...it changes back and forth...I don't know what causes that.

Can't change it in the stock messaging app. Handcent is the same way, except on popups, if the contact is named, it only shows the name.
