Phone restarted on charger and doesn't work?

I left my phone to come back to it on the charger, displaying the HTC logo from the bootup. Then it tried to go through the rest of bootup and left me with a black screen and the buttons are lit up. Any suggestions? Should I return it?

Do you have it up and running now? If not try a battery pull. I wouldn't return because something weird happened once. See if it happens again

I've pulled the battery and done everything but a hard reset..I'm new to android and would rather not if I don't absolutely have to. Does it save your settings? I didn't get any apps for that type of stuff because I didn't see this being an issue. But no, same thing is occurring.

A hard reset won't save anything. Have you applied all updates? Go to settings - about phone and check for software updates. After that update prl and firmware

Yeah I've had it since launch date and got all of the updates that came. I can't even get past the black screen and lit up buttons at this point, so I can't do anything..and I didn't save anything on the sd card..lucky me

See if you're able to do anything by hooking it up to your computer. If nothing I would exchange it. Of course they will prob want you to talk with tech support to fix it. Good luck with that LOL

Well it recognizes the phone is plugged in, but I don't know what to do from there?

Well I just factory reset it. Everythings working fine now.

I'm pretty sure you will have to apply the updates again. Not 100% certain on that
