I currently have a relatively new Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra ( SM-N986W). The screen on my phone randomly dims really dark than within a few seconds, it returns to its original brightness.

This happens a few times a day regardless of where I am or the brightness of the area around me.

Mine does the same since the October update have no idea why hopefully November update returns it to normal.

Welcome to Android Central! Does that still happen with Adaptive Brightness off?

I'm the one who originally made the post. It seems to not happen when I turn adaptive brightness off. This feature is really useful for me so I wanted to keep it on. I'm wondering if it's a software or hardware issue. My guess is the former since I haven't had this phone for more than a month.

Hey , my Note20U not experiencing it , October build in the US , maybe wait until November update comes see if its ok ?

Also, make sure nothing is blocking the area where the light sensor would be (the very top of the phone screen), and also make sure the glass is clean overlying it.

That's a good point I did put a new brand plastic screen saver on right around the same day as I got the October update. The old one was very clear and almost unnoticeable and this one has an orange peel look. Time to pull it off and return to the original brand.

I have the original "screen protector" that comes with the phone when you get it. The area looks pretty clean and I didn't have any issues with it in the first few weeks. The screen dims and brightens pretty consistently to the surrounding light so I don't think it's an issue of obstruction.

I just got the October update and I'll see if this helps with it.
