I just got a referb phone because the old one had some audio "pop" issues. But even that phone would turn on at 9pm, 12am, 6am. but then just go back to sleep. Annoying, but not a huge deal. But the referb has some issue that when that happens it will not turn the screen back off. Woke up around 5 am and the screen was on and phone very hot. Until I pull the battery the screen will not auto off. It will be fine until the next cycle starts.

This is what I have installed... Could it be an app that is waking it up? Going to call and get another phone, but still strange waking up like that. Obviouslly its syncing something.

Easiest way to find out if it's an app is to factory restore and use it for a day without your apps. If it doesn't show the traits then i would begin installing a few 3-5 app a day and then see which one set of apps is doing it and you'll find your culprit soon

maybe there is some app which is holding "Full Wakelock"
Google for 'android wakelocks' for more details,

in my case, Mp3 Downloader's Ad Notification was waking up my device randomly several times a day.
I found it out by using "Wakelock detector" : WLD at XDA forum
