Phone slowing to a crawl when near 1 cell tower

So I got a one plus nord n200 5G. Model de2118. Android version 12.

My carrier is us mobile using the Verizon network

So my issue is while I'm at work my phone slows down to a crawl and heats up. I'm speaking of the physical phone itself slowing down and not my network speed. When I go to use it, it can take a few minutes just to be able to put in the security pin. This only happens when I am near this specific local cell tower. Once my phone connects to another cell tower it acts normal. This has gone on since the first moment my phone connected to this cell tower.

I switched to one of the other carriers my provider offers with no issues so it's only the Verizon network from this single tower that's the problem. After testing the other 2 networks I would like to go back to the Verizon network but would also like to fix this issue.

I remember one of my coworkers mentioning the same issue in passing and that it was eventually fixed though I got no answer as to how.

Any ideas as to what's causing this issue?

Welcome to Android Central! That's an odd one. Have you spoken to Verizon about this? The 1st tier customer service people probably won't have an answer, so you might have to ask for a higher tier tech support person.

I haven't called them yet. I do suppose since it's their tower I could call them though I don't have service through them

Oops, sorry -- I meant to call US Cellular. I wonder if it might be a congestion issue for US Cellular using the Verizon tower, especially since there would be some potential for deprioritization, given that US Cellular is an MVNO?

Us mobile. I looked it up and they are a mvno. I'll end up contacting them about it but figured I'd see if anyone has seen this happen before I contacted them.

Though I would think a congestion issue would only effect my browsing speed and not my phone's processing speed

Double oops! Man, my brain isn't working at full speed today. I'm more familiar with UScellular (which is one of the networks Google Fi used to use), and had never heard of US Mobile until now.

You're right, congestion shouldn't necessarily affect the phone's inherent performance. Do you recall if the cell signal was showing as strong when you were using the Verizon tower? If it was really poor, perhaps that was causing the phone to work overtime to latch onto the signal, causing overheating, which itself could slow the phone down due to the system automatically throttling performance as a safety feature.

If I remember right it was 3-4 bars outside and 1-2 inside a building. The performance issue would usually start the moment it connected to the tower. Music would stop for a moment like it was buffering but it would be caused by the phone slowing down.

Usually when I got poor signal wether from other towers or using another network everything would either buffer or stop altogether while phone processing would be fine.

I won't say it's impossible though. Just odd it's only 1 tower
