Phone updated it's over the air programming last night by itself

I got home around 8pm last night and heard something while in my kitchen. I pulled out my phone and it's playing the Verizon music when it does an over the air (OTA) programming update. I think it called *228 and pressed 9 then 9 or just *22899. I didn't stop it since I've heard the same when originally activating any phone on Verizon. I just thought it really odd it did it by itself while in my pocket.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal?

Yes I have had this happen several times. Usually when performing a reboot. Happen last night as well after 24 hours of no 3g service my phone suddenly dialed out then gained 3g back. WEIRD.
