ok i haven't purchased the insurance on my last two phones ...sgs2 and inspire, i know thats taking a risk but i did it anyway as i am very careful with my phones , i was considering getting the insurance when i plan on purchasing the galaxy s3 once it is released but my question is,is the insurance really worth it? i always thought if i break the phone i would have to pay a certain amount and they would send me out another new one.

well to my knowledge a couple of my family members who paid for the insurance on their att phones when broke and after they paid the fee they were sent "refurbished phones" not brand new, and 9 out of 10 times the refurbished phones they received had problems with them and didn't work properly and was more trouble than it was worth they said.

it just doesn't make sense to me to pay monthly for the insurance to receive a phone that isn't even brand new, what do you guys think?

When you put like that yes it's true , you pay all year plus deductible and get a refurb. Although without insurance and no eligible upgrade you pay full ticky which could be $500.00-$600.00 your choice.

I found AT&T warranty to be very worth it.

My story: Bought a Skyrocket off Amazon for a penny. Month ago, phone started acting up and WiFi ceased working. Using my HW warranty, sent it to Samsung. They said they fixed it, but really didn't. Tried again with Samsung, but they would only keep repairing the phone and not replace it. On a suggestion, I tried AT&T to see if they can provide me with any options. In fact, after various chats and phone calls, they arranged to sent me a refurb (looks new) Skyrocket and I just have to send the broken one back.

AT&T, shockingly, treated me well. Just had to jump through some hoops.

I've noticed any phone insurance will give you a refurb unless your the first person to need one. Yes some cases the refurb is horrable. Other cases good as new. They will do the same thing with warrenty as well.

The way i look at it myself and the way i explain it to my customers is not to look at it as what do you pay overall over the course of a year, two years. Look at it as in case you need to replace your phone out of warranty, ie you lost it, got soaked or whatever the case may be. What is better to pay at one time? The deductible (sometimes as much as $200 depending on the phone), or would you rather pay the full retail cost of a new phone (could be upwards of $500-$600 also depending on which phone you choose).

AT&T Uses Asurion for their mobile insurance (as do all the rest of the top four carriers as far as i am aware). Whenever you do a claim through them, 9 out of ten times you are indeed sent a refurbished or remanufactured device. But with that, each device they send you comes with a 90 day warranty through Asurion. So say you do get another device through them and it is having issues, screen doesnt work, speaker or mic are blown. As long as it wasnt caused by out of warranty damage, you can get a free replacement through Asurion within those 90 days.
