phone went into factory reset, lost all fingerprints but says i have my thumb still enrolled. why?

i accidentally put my phone into a factory reset and when i went to put my fingerprint scanner back, i tried my thumb, index finger and other thumb but it wont enroll them as it says they're already enrolled, this is annoying as its the quickest way for me to get into my phone
