My phone has been acting really wonky lately and I don't know why.

Today, like I do every day, I connected my phone to my car for Android auto and went on my way. Halfway through my drive, my smartwatch alerts me to a voicemail. I think it's odd my phone never rang. I take my phone out of the cupholder where I always place it and it's very hot and it has the icon for overheating and says operation is limited.

This is now the second time my phone has done this since the July update. Also since then people have complained they can't hear me on speaker phone anymore.

What is going on?

For the overheating issue -- do you keep your AC on at a comfortable level, or do you let the interior run fairly hot? Was sun shining directly on the phone while in the cupholder? Considering how ungodly hot it's been in much of the country, it's certainly possible that the combination of the phone actively running Android Auto and the quick temperature rise that direct sun inside a car can cause could have led to the overheating mode. Make sure the phone stays in shade while in use, and consider using a vent-mounted holder instead with the AC running constantly.

For the speakerphone issue -- try taking a video of something with sound, and then play it back using headphones. If one channel is silent, then your secondary mic is likely blocked by something (e.g., clogged by lint), or has failed.

yeah to be honest with you, my phone into overheating mode many times over the past weekend and shut down because it was too hot. However in New Jersey it was 105 and I don't use the AC. So to be logical about that it was hot in my arm rest connected via USB to Android Auto lol. That aspect of it, I would never hold against Android for shutting the phone down. I'm actually shocked the phone didn't shut off sooner lol

Oh man, I grew up in Jersey, and I remember all too well the hazy, hot, and humid summers. Now it's 4 H's -- add hellish!:p
Haha yeah yeah. And considering last weekend was 105 all weekend, it's completely understandable!

Charge once a daily
well, certainly in beta 4 I was able to charge up only once a day.. now in beta 5, even with Android auto, I have to charge a little bit more than once a day which I'm not happy about. I report the bug issue to Google developers directly though.

Charge once a daily
If the phone needs it, yes. If it's down to 40% by 3 in the afternoon, that's a second charge that day. It all depends on usage. (If I sit home online with my desktop all day, I can go 3 days on a charge with a Pixel 2, and that's a small battery.) Charging a phone that's at 85% just because it's a new day is a waste, unless you're going to actually be using the phone all day - and then you'll have to charge it again before the day ends.

B. Diddy, it has to do with charging and overheating. In this weather (and, I'm afraid from now on in the summer), I don't charge a phone in a room that's not air conditioned. Pretty soon, when 105 and higher is the normal daytime temperature, the component manufacturers are going to have to come up with higher temperature components.

Forgot to get back to this thread. Car had A/C on at 72 degrees like usual. Phone was in the cupholder which is up front and not in the sun. It was not on one of the 105 degree days, it was mid 80s and around 630pm at night.

Actually, on the 105 degree days I didnt have any problems with the phone. Its actually been 90s when the phone is right on the handlebars of my motorcycle as I ride to and from work every day this week so far and no overheating.

So, this again brings up the questionable situations. Twice this has happened in conditions it shouldnt have since the July update.

Was it actively charging when it overheated, while perhaps the other times it wasn't charging?

It was actively charging. The same as it is when I plug the phone in to go to work every morning, and on the way home every night. Last night it got mega hot laying on my couch connected to my laptop charging. Not hot enough to get the warning though.

Again, yesterday it sat on the handlebars(also charging) of my motorcycle in 93 degree heat in direct sunlight with no issues at all.

Its just so weird.

Has the battery been behaving strangely as well? I wonder if it might be starting to fail. Also, have you tried different charger?

Actually, battery has been great otherwise. It goes on the charging stand every night at bedtime. OE cable in the car for android auto and charging(new car has Qi charging too but I dont put it there while connected to USB). And once in a while Ill connect to my laptop with a random USB cable.

The only times it has gone into overheat mode were the two times connected to my car with the OE cable.

So the cable is still a possible culprit. Try switching that cable out and see if it happens again in the car.

also this much come on my phone charges if you was before bed and it's full of charge, there's no overheating warning or the phone doesn't shut down. like I said, the sum of time when it's like 90 outside I get the overheating warning on my phone but That's to be expected since my car is baking under the sun.

Hey, thanks for the info. I'm waiting for it to update itself at this point lol.
