AC Question

My galaxy S4 fell in the water, it was in there for maybe 2 seconds. I instinctively pushe the button to see if it was still working but the screen started glitching and it went black. After 2 days after taking the back cover off and taking the battery and sim card out and letting it air dry, I tried it again and it worked just fine. Now 3 months later it shut down while it was charging and only turns on for a second when the battery is removed and inserted back in. I have tons of important info on it that is not on the sim card, is there anything I can do to retrieve the information on the device itself?? AT&T tells me no because in order to do it my phone has to turn on. I need to buy a new phone obviously, but I'm desperate over all the info in this one, I just need the info and my contacts. Please please help. Thank u in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! Have you already tried a new or different battery?

The problem with water damage is that it can be unpredictable, widespread, and insidious. Although the phone initially worked after the initial exposure, it likely set up some slowly developing corrosion that ultimately caused your current problems. It's too bad the initial mishap didn't raise red flags for you and spur you to backup or sync all of your important data somewhere. In the future, keep all of your contacts saved to your Google account, and use Google Photos Auto Backup to save your photos automatically to your Google Photos in the cloud.

For future reference, here's a guide for what to do in case of water exposure: http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...ow-s/477140-guide-oh-no-my-phone-got-wet.html
