Phone will charge, then discharge when plugged in

Anyone find this problem?

I plug my phone in before going to bed. I leave it propped up, with the "clock app" running, alarm set, to wake me up in the morning. Backlight is off, (well, as "off" as it goes), display is on.

As I wake up periodically during the night, I see it charging up. At one point last night, it was at 100%.

This morning, I look at it, and it's at 82%, no charging icon. It's acting like it's not plugged in, even though it is, (good connection, LED on on the charger). Unplugging it and plugging it back in instantly causes it to start charging back up.

I'm guessing this isn't normal. Anyone else see this? Worth taking the phone to Sprint?

Rechargeable devices have logic that attempts to charge the phone without overcharging (which prematurely wears out the batteries).

The charging circuit will typically charge the battery to 100% and then stop charging it, then periodically do a maintenance charge to keep it close to 100%. The logic used to do the maintenance charge is different by phone and is never perfect (this is a big complaint with the Evo).

I haven't had that problem with my phone, it is typically 95-100% charge when I pull it off the charger in the morning... however, I turn my screen off entirely. The charge circuit may not handle the "screen on but turned down" scenario very well.

It is possible you have a bad phone/battery but I would test it out for a couple nights to determine if it's the battery/phone or just the nature of the recharge circuit on this phone.
