I am doing this from a mac and have spend countless hours on it. I am stuck. I have read and read...and read some more...someone have mercy on me. am I leaving out a step...do I need a custom kernel? phone is dl09 with the ea28 update.

Help is greatly appreciated.

can you boot into red still?

when i turn it on it goes to the screen that asks if I want to reboot

When you loaded cwm red, did you flash cwm-recovery-all? If so, you do not need to hit apply sdcard:update.zip. When you boot directly to red cwm-all just go straight to install zip from sd card=>choose zip from sd card and flash the 2.9 zip file. Boot to recovery right now by holding volume up, volume down, and power buttons until samsung flashes twice on the screen. As soon as you see samsung flash for the second time, let go of all three buttons. If you go directly to red cwm without the white bitmap error messages on the lower portion of the screen, do the above.

That isn't the issue Landshark, he needs to load the kernel that Adryn posted along side the Rom... I've been through this issue with a friend of mine before and Adryn pointed me to the right direction

Ok, thanks. Which kernel, the EB01?

Was a failed Voodoo conversion with some. Mine instantly coverted without the kernel. But, others have had the conversion issue and thus flashing the eb01 kernel alongside it will/should fix the issue.

i dont know if we can determine this either way , there is a couple things that are unclear here. did he actually flash 2.9 or did he believe that he had to select update.zip to flash...

before EB01 if you flashed red cwm you had to boot directly into red or else it would be broken at reboot because the stock kernel would be dominant, ,,you would need to flash cwm boot directly into red then change kernels then you could boot back into red whenever you wanted.

now if he flashed red cwm then flashed 2.9 he would be fine, but it doesnt sound like that happened.

we need to know the steps taken so we can identify where this went wrong, or he could just flash 2.9 with odin and be done with it

also he didnt say if he flashed voodoo or non

Oh, I didn't realize you were talking about voodoo. That is definitely not his problem if he is not trying to flash the voodoo ROM. DroidXcon is on the right path. Govolsman never said in his OP whether he was flashing voodoo or nonvoodoo. If he's nonvoodoo, may not be a kernel issue.

It's the issue, because my friend experienced it and he wasn't going for Voodoo at first, he was going for NonVoodoo. It will keep booting you into red cwm every time without pushing the buttons or anything. I had my friend switch to voodoo and install the kernel after Adryns advice and it worked fine.

ok...what I did is as follows.

last night I finally figured out how to root my phone with my mac, and was successful.

I got cwm to install using the one click method and installed the 2.1-2.2.zip using Braydons guide for mac users.

I could not use the one click push to push the rom to my sd card because my mac stopped recognizing my phone, so i figured out how to use the adb commands from the mac terminal to get the rom to my sd card...which I found, when I went to install the rom, in the sd card root directory as I expected. I chose the option to install zip from sd card. it said it was successful but also said that a file was not found, the update.zip. I looked up what the update.zip was and figured, maybe incorrectly, that I needed it and that I needed to apply sdcard:update.zip. So I did. I gave up using the adb commands, took my sd card out and put it into a reader, pplugged it into my mac, transfered the update.zip, and applied it. It didnt work. It was about 4 in the morning and I had been working on it since about 11 so I was tired and pulled the battery to see what would happen. it takes be back to the voodoo lagfix recovery 2.5.1.x screen asking me if I want to reboot system.

So I posed my question on here before going to bed and gave up...frustrated as heck. Does that help you at all?

now was the 2.9 file voodoo or non voodoo,,,,did it say 2.9v or 2.9nv at the end of the file?

If I have to I could go to my inlaws and try whatever I need to using a pc...but I would rather figure it out using the mac at my house

I thought I had done enough reading to have a clue what I am doing, but I am a little confused now. I didnt think I needed to install both a custom rom and custom kernel.

ok plug your phone in and create the adb connection, i believe you should still be able to push to sd from recovery, ill get you the kernel you need brb

ok, I will try it. I assume I just need to push the file to the root directory of my sd card?
