phone won't boot, need to move contact info to new phone

Hi,

I've looked around the forums a bit, but nothing I recognize as helpful. Doesn't mean there isn't something, I just don't recognize it. I'm not much of a computer guy, though I am not COMPLETELY helpless. And I'm not great with the TLA's, either.

Anyway, my old HTC Incredible 2 won't boot past the screen that says HTC. Although I've received a replacement phone that works fine using the two cards from the old phone, neither tech support nor a Verizon Wireless store are able to recover the info on the phone, and I don't have it backed up. Any chance there's a way to get the info out before I have to give the phone back?

I can get to the HBOOT screen, if that's what it's called. Recover doesn't work. Currently, after I had set it aside. I got the red triangle with the exclamation point in it. It did that when I wasn't looking. I THINK it was after getting the white screen that just says htc, which is part of a normal boot.

I've had the battery out and in numerous times.

Other clues: For a long time, the battery level indicator was flaky. It would go to low battery immediately off the charger, sometimes. I didn't worry too much as I had another application which reported the voltage directly, and it behaved as expected, and the phone continued to work. Then it wouldn't charge or boot. Not sure if both of those happened at the same time or if the not charging came first.

Thanks!

Lincoln

Was able to do the clear cache partition suggested here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...pdate-patch-wont-reboot-issue-solved.html#anb
After that, I got a normal startup screen except that the date was in 1980 and I couldn't drag the bar down to open things up. I've tried again and if I'm really patient I get to the red triangle again. Haven't seen that startup screen again.

A further clue is that the menu that comes up per the above fix includes error messages about not mounting the SD card. But it's in there. Sigh.

If I plug into my PC, it sometimes thinks there's stuff there, but it can't see much. Maybe I've wiped my data. It sees a removable disk and a CD drive! Currently empty, but once I saw a bit of stuff in there. Nothing that looked like contacts, however.

Unfortunately not. I suspect that tech support or the store would have caught anything that easy. But, of course, you never know.

So you are now able to boot the phone to a home screen, or you are still stuck at the HTC?

Sent from my HTC Incredible 2 using Tapatalk 2

Can't do anything with it now. It's at the post office.

But yes, I could get sort of a home screen (though not the one I used to have) with no apps and a date in 1980.

It's all academic now.
