So there are probably a few of these threads out there but let me just explain that this is an annoying problem I have had, everytime i shut her down, i can't get her to come back on for the life of me (takes at least 20mins to get it to come back to life and thats with plugging the phone in too)

I thought i had an issue with the power button be "recessed" as many claim is the problem and thought no way this phone is solid, how can that be, thought maybe my premier case was the issue, nope none of the above, what about that hairline crack going around, nope not that either ...

So i tried this, and hit the jackpot, shut her down, leave her for at least 5mins maybe longer if you can wait it out, than press the top power button as you usually would, don't think you need a hold down just press it in nicely and release ...and bingo instant on!

Think the EVO powering down takes awhile!!! and the pressing of the power button only messes with the shut down toggling it between on and off somehow, anyway repeated this technique and it works time after time again, yes very annoying but at least i know i dont have a power button problem

It takes 20 mins for your phone to come back on? That can't be right. don't you think something is wrong? Why don't you return it?

When the screen goes off it is still shutting down. It doesn't take 20 minutes, but it does take ~30 seconds after the screen has turned off for it to completely shut down.

Also, people, stop pulling your batteries. If you just want to reset it, hold the power button down and rock the volume controls up/down repeatedly. It will trigger a low-level reboot (aka, it will work even if Android has locked up).

I believe in the theory if it aint broke don't try and fix it, and while this might not sound normal and maybe I exaggerated a bit with how long it takes to toggle back on (it does take awhile tho for some unknown reason), it will work with the way i explained without any issue. Yes you can pull the battery, or you can use the volume rockers I guess (haven't tried that one) but there is honestly nothing else wrong with the phone and with the replacement Evo's showing signs of issues throughout the Evo community i'll take my chances if thats all that is happening with my launch day version!

I did some tweaking of the settings on the phone to help improve battery life and now for some reason the power button won't turn the phone off. If it is locked I can press the power button and it will turn off but if its not locked and you press the button nothing happens. You have to just wait for the screen to time out for it to go off.
