Just a quick report here, as I need to get back to what I was doing ...
I just discovered that the 2.1 upgrade resets the photo filename counter. IMAG0001.jpg, IMAG0002.jpg, et cetera. If you have existing photos on the phone (on the SD card) with those names, it overwrites them!
Edit: hmmm, I'm not sure, I seem to be seeing both behaviors -- overwrite and append.
